Part of the Hexamer Redux project, Hexamer:Providence was a collaboration with natural dyers Mira Adornetto and Elissa Meyers of BLUEREDYELLOW and botanist Zya S. Levy of We the Weeds. The overgrown, demolished “megalot” of the Providence Dye Works was re-surveyed by community members. Participants created natural dye from weeds gathered the lot, dyed fabric and yarn, conducted surveys of the plants that grow in the lot, and engaged in discussions about the past and the future of the “megalot."
The data collected, along with dyed fabric and photographs, was inserted into a large print of the 1889 survey and exhibited in Manufacturing Fire at Little Berlin in April, 2014.
Hexamer Redux was supported by The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage through the Triple I Award.
